Lafiore is a family run business, situated in the beautiful valleys that surround the road from Palma to Valldemossa on the island of Majorca.
Although the glassworks have been at this location for many decades, Senor Nadal Tortella established the brand name 'Lafiore' in 1984 and that is when the current collection started.
Employing 10 glassworkers, including 4 'Glass Masters', they design, craft and produce everything by hand and all items are produced from recycled glass.
Lafiore's Majorcan craftsmen are still loyal to a working method that is over two thousand years old. Lafiore combine the beauty of classical shapes with new kinds of colours and textures. Again these different textures are achieved using recycled material, the colours are the result of constant craft exploration in the field of shapes.

As all of Lafiore's products are 100% hand made it means that each item is unique and personal. The products are crafted using age old glass blowing techniques passed down and learned over many years, in fact to attain the status of glass master requires years and years of learning and those skills are still being developed during a lifetime in the trade.
From a simple vase to the most classical, decorative and ornamental pieces, the broad range and variety of colours, designs, and textures means that Lafiore glass will complement any environment.

Glass making dates back to the 4th century B.C. although the invention of the glass-blowing technique dates from the 1st century B.C.

The Lafiore kilns operate at temperatures in excess of 1,100 degrees. The craftsmen gather molten glass (a gob) from the kiln on the end of a blowing pipe. The gob of glass is rolled smooth in a scoop before being blown into the required shape. Many additional forming processes and techniques will be used by the craftsman depending on the item being made. The top part of the piece created at the blowing stage (called the moil) has to be removed by using localised heat. To remove any sharp edges each piece is ground and polished. Each item is then washed and individually inspected against Lafiore's exacting quality standards, any item not up to standard is recycled.
